Allyson was attending Northwest University in Kirkland, Wa and while she was at a school chapel she heard Pastor Paul McArthur speak. Paul was my youth pastor at the time and I was actually with him that day to travel with him, but Allyson and I didn't meet then. So, Allyson was looking for a church and looked into going to Pastor Paul's church. So she started to attend at Solid Rock Community Church in Covington (where she is now the Office Administrator). So after seeing each other a few times at church we started joking around and something came up about wanting to learn how to play guitar, and I mentioned that I was a guitar instructor at a fine arts academy in Auburn. But I offered to teach her for free, as long as she drove to my house. So we started having 1 hour lessons and we would throw in a movie after lessons and she'd stay for dinner...and you know where this is going! Needless to say, Allyson still has no clue how to play the guitar!

The engagement night was something out of a movie, but it was perfectly taylored to us. I surprised her by renting an Infiniti G35 sports car (picture in detailed story).
And with a little help from the GPS system in the nice car we got to our dinner reservations at Daniel's Broiler in Bellevue, we got an extremely nice window seat with a veiw of Seattle. After an amazing dinner we headed out to Snoqualmie Falls (close to my hometown of North Bend) and tried to look at the falls from the famous lookout but it was a complete wall of mist with zero visability of the falls.
So we go to use the restrooms at the Salish Lodge. And little did Allyson know that I was going to have her, her mom (Eleanor) and her sister Tammy all spend the night in one of the rooms at the lodge! So, Allyson comes out of the restroom and I grab her hand and say, "Just run with me on this one..."
and I take her to the front desk and check us in.
(She was completely confused!)
We get to the
room and it was decorated beautifully.
You can see some of the pictures in our Gallery.
And we walked to the balcony and we were actually able to see the falls without mist from that angle! So we get back inside and I know what has to be done! It's Game time!
So after I tell her a few words I end with this phrase,
"...with the promise to love and cherish you for the rest of my life,
Allyson Marie Nichols, (On one knee) Will You Marry Me?
And since you're on the wedding website, I will let you figure out what she said.
I left for the night, and came back the next morning with a starbucks breakfast for Allyson, Eleanor and Tammy. Lots of ginger bread and lemon cake and peppermint hot chocolates. We had an amazingly memorible time that we can look back on
for decades to come!
